Pakistan Defeats Zimbabwe in ODI for the First Time in Nine Years

Pakistan played their 63rd ODI against Zimbabwe today, with the two teams having a longstanding history. Pakistan has dominated their encounters, holding a commanding win-loss ratio. Before today’s match in Bulawayo, the last ODI between the sides was in November 2020, when Zimbabwe won in a dramatic Super Over after the match ended in a tie. However, the official result was recorded as a 'tie.'

With today's loss, Pakistan's record stands at 54 wins from 63 encounters, while Zimbabwe has won 5 and three matches have been tied. Notably, Pakistan had not lost to Zimbabwe in an ODI in nine years, with their last defeat coming in Harare in 2015.

In today’s rain-affected match, Pakistan lost by 80 runs under the DLS method. Zimbabwe batted first after losing the toss, and were bowled out for 205 runs in 40.2 overs. Richard Ngarava was the top scorer for Zimbabwe with 48 runs from 52 balls, including 5 fours and a six. Pakistan's bowlers, Agha Salman and debutant Faisal Akram, were the standout performers, each taking 3 wickets. Amir Jamal, Mohammad Hasnain, and Haris Rauf chipped in with one wicket each.

Chasing 206 runs, Pakistan’s batting struggled, losing 6 wickets for just 60 runs in 21 overs. The rain then interrupted play, and under the revised DLS target, Pakistan required 80 more runs to win. However, they were unable to complete the chase, marking a rare defeat to Zimbabwe in recent years.
