Guardiola will not hold on to the position of coach if he cannot turn around
Pep Guardiola is currently facing the toughest period of his career. His team, Manchester City, has lost five of their last six matches, including three consecutive defeats in the Premier League. The only other result during this stretch was a draw. Now, City must face Liverpool in what promises to be a challenging test.
A loss tonight could see City fall further behind in the title race. However, Guardiola remains determined to turn things around. He expressed his commitment to getting the team back on track, stating that if he’s unable to do so, he doesn’t want to be a burden on the squad.
Guardiola also made it clear that recent discussions over his contract renewal won't be an obstacle to his focus. As of now, Manchester City is 8 points behind league leaders Liverpool, who have accumulated 31 points from 12 matches. City, on the other hand, sits in fourth place with 23 points, following their recent draw.
Ahead of this crucial match, City manager Guardiola said, "I don’t want to be in a position where I feel like a problem. The contract situation is there, but I don’t want to use that as an excuse. My chairman knows how I feel. I’ve told him, ‘Give me a chance to turn things around.’ We’ll see what happens, especially once everyone is back from injury. If I can’t prove I have the ability to fix things, then we’ll have to make changes."
Guardiola also described the challenge of turning City’s form around as something he’s embracing. He said, “This time, I strongly asked my superiors for the opportunity to prove myself.” He went on, “Will the job be easier now? No, I don’t think so. I still have work to do, and I’m determined to get it done.”
