Iniesta also purchased the club this time.
Andrés Iniesta bid farewell to all forms of football last month, marking the end of an illustrious playing career. However, just two months after his retirement, the Spanish football legend has made a surprising return to the sport in a new capacity. Iniesta recently revealed that he has acquired a football club.
The former World Cup winner has purchased Danish second-division side Helsingør FC. His company, NSN, will be involved in the ownership structure alongside the Swedish investment firm Stoneweg.
According to the club, the Swiss investment group Stoneweg will hold ownership, with sports management and consulting company NSN also playing a key role. Iniesta’s statement was published on the club’s official website, marking the beginning of this exciting new chapter in his football journey.
He said, "This is a fantastic opportunity to experience football from a different perspective."
Iniesta shared with a local newspaper, "We decided to join Helsingør because it’s a very interesting club. The club has excellent facilities, and many great people are involved. The city also has significant potential to become a key player in Danish football."
Foreign ownership is not a new concept for Helsingør FC. The club's previous owner was a local businessman who took over in August 2022. Prior to that, the club was under the ownership of the American investment group, Jordan Gardener, for three seasons.
The club’s current manager is former Spanish footballer Pep Alosmar. Helsingør is currently ranked 7th in their division, having won 5 of their 15 matches so far this season.
Iniesta's most recent playing stint was with UAE's Emirates FC, where he featured in 23 matches and scored 5 goals. Over the course of his club career, Iniesta netted 93 goals and provided 161 assists.
Footballers owning clubs is a growing trend, with stars like Ronaldo Nazário, David Beckham, and Zlatan Ibrahimović already among the ranks of club owners. Even Kylian Mbappé, who is still in the prime of his playing career, is involved in club ownership.
